Situated within the Greater Mekong Subregion, the Restoration Ecology Group (REG) of XTBG employs multiple approaches including theoretical research, manipulated experiments, and field investigation to examine three main research directions. These directions are: (1) understanding consequences of anthropogenic activities on successional dynamics of tropical and subtropical mountainous ecosystems, (2) assessment of ecosystem health through establishment and provision of evaluation criteria (bio-indicators) with particular focus on the responses of structural organisms to global climate change, and (3) development of cutting edge technologies to accelerate restoration or reconstruction of degraded ecosystems for ultimately achieving biodiversity conservation and ecosystem function recovery. Our research group aims to:(1) providethe scientific basis for the establishment of an ecological security barrier in Southwest China and the strategic layout of the One Belt One Road southern route.(2) contribute technological innovative supports for the ecological and environment-friendly manners to maintain good practices, thrive for sustainable development of Southwest China and neighboring regions.
