Abstract:

Integrative Conservation, published by XTBG and Wiley, is a fully open access and interdisciplinary journal encompassing a wide range of perspectives and scholarly disciplines relevant to our understanding and conservation of biodiversity.

In this webinar, the Editors-in-Chief of the journals Integrative Zoology, Plant Diversity and Integrative Conservation will discuss academic publishing from an editor’s perspective.

The editors will introduce their journals, discuss selecting the right journal, give advice on writing papers and responding to reviewers’ criticisms, and highlight common pitfalls to avoid. They will also discuss the importance of developing and strengthening Chinese and Asian academic journals, and how to run a successful journal that provides value to the scientific community. All this represents a platform for the audience to gain answers to questions about their journals.

Panellists

Zhibin Zhang is a Professor from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He was elected as the foreign member of Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 2014, and foreign member of Academy of Europe (Academia Europaea) in 2017. He is now the President of International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS), and Editor-in-Chief of Integrative Zoology. His research interests focus on animal population ecology, including broad-scale climate driving mechanism and interactions between animals and plants or microbes.

Jianqiang Wu is a Professor from the Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS. He is now the Editor-in-Chief of Plant Diversity, Co-editor of Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, and Editor of Journal of Ecology and Environment. His research interests focus on plant-herbivore interaction and plant-parasite interaction.

Yongping Yang is Director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, CAS. He is now Editor-in-Chief of Integrative Conservation. His major research interests are plant phylogenetics, pollination ecology and molecular biology. In recent years, he focused on plant adaptive evolution by applying comparative genomics and population genetics approach.

Ahimsa Campos-Arceiz is a Professor and Principal investigator at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, CAS. He is Editor-in-Chief of Integrative Conservation. His main research interests and expertise are the ecology and conservation of Asian megafauna, especially elephants, human-wildlife conflicts, plant-animal interactions, conservation policy and governance, and local capacity building in science and conservation. He is a former President of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC) and the Asian Section of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB-Asia).

Moderator

Gbadamassi Gouvide Olawole Dossa is an associate professor at  Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and teaches statistics and reproducibility science to undergraduate and graduate students. Originally from Benin, Dossa holds a PhD (University of CAS; 2016), and a M.Sc. (Northeast Agricultural University; 2012) in ecology and focuses on nutrients cycling in forested systems with applications for conservation. He has held scientific positions in Kunming Institute of Botany, World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF East and Central Asia regional office), and at Kathryn Bushley Lab, University of Minnesota.
