March 27 – 30, 2023, the PhD candidate Zhihui Yue and Chuwei Kong of EEPAI attended the 22nd Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS) 2023, held in the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge, UK.
SCCS has been running since 2000 and has been attended by over 3,000 students from over 130 countries. Each year, over 400 students from around the world apply to attend the conference and about 200 are selected by an expert committee of university academics and conservation practitioners and invited to attend.
The SCCS 2023 in the series was held in the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge and was a hybrid event, attended by around 170 online or in-person delegates working in conservation science from over 40 countries.
The conference included 19 talks and 73 posters contributed by research students. Zhihui Yue contributed an oral presentation titled “Drawing Reveals Factors Shaping the Nature Cognition of Chinese Preadolescents”. Chuwei Kong presented a poster titled “Investigating the Impact of a School Garden and Instructional Interventions on Fostering Children’s Interest in Nature”.
On March 21 – 26, before the conference, Zhihui Yue and Chuwei Kong visited some places in London and Edinburgh, such as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh (RBGE). Through deep communication with the staffs from RBGE as well as Professor Richard Corlett in London, the two not only broadened their horizons but also gained a lot of inspirations for future research and career development.
