10th – 13rd September, 2019, Tluang Hmung Thang attended the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC), Asia-Pacific Conference (APC) 2019, held in MAS Athena of Sri Lanka. The ATBC-APC aimed to create a platform to bring together researchers, conservation practitioners and managers, young scientists and business professionals through the scientific discourse and corridor to disentangle and engage the portfolio of diverse tropical biology and conservation issues across the Asia-Pacific region. In this ATBC-APC, over 350 delegates from Asia-Pacific region actively participated. Delegates delivered 185 oral presentations, 25 speed talks and 34 poster presentations under the themes of “Bridging the Elements of Biodiversity Conservation: Save-Study-Use”. Tluang Hmung Thang delivered one oral presentation, entitled “Microsite preferences and determinants for seedling and sapling recruitment in tropical montane forest of Myanmar: implication for restoration” under the session of “Making Science Matter: from Conservation Research to Implementation”. With his presentation, Tluang Hmung Thang circulated knowledge on recruitment of three montane tree species (Quercus semecarpifolia, Rhododendron arboreum, and Symplocos lucida), microsite preferences and determinant factors which impact to their recruitment along altitudinal gradients in tropical montane forest of Myanmar. The talk contributed in understanding of recruitment of early life stages of tree species in tropical tree species particularly for mountainous regions, and added the knowledge of species-specific preferences and determinant factors which is essential for restoration in fragmented and deteriorated landscape across the tropical region.
