XTBG Environmental Education Team's Study Tour in Hubei Province

From April 11-18, 2024, the environmental education team of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) conducted a study tour in Hubei province focusing on “New Ideas, New Paradigms, and New Methods in Conservation Education and Science Education." Led by Professor Chen Jin, Chief Scientist of the Environmental Education Center (EEC) at XTBG, the team comprised of 14 staff members and graduate students. During the trip, the team visited two botanical gardens to discuss the current status and future trends of environmental education. They also explored potential collaborations in formal and informal education by visiting primary schools and kindergartens.

2024年4月11-18日中国科学院西双版纳热带植物园环境教育团队赴湖北开展以“保护教育与科学教育：新思想、新范式、新方法”的主题游学。期间，团队访问了2个植物园，与植物园同行交流植物园环境教育的发展状况与未来趋势；亲临小学校园和幼儿园，探讨校内外教育的合作方式；走进保护区和生物多样性保护机构，了解一线的保护实践，思考教育与保护实践的深度融合。本次游学，团队成员共做了7场学术报告、召开6个座谈会，全过程沉浸在讨论、思考、交流的游学氛围之中。

XTBG Environmental Education Team's Study Tour to Guangxi with Theme of Ecological Civilization Education

In April 1-8, 2023, the environmental education team of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) embarked on a study tour to Guangxi with a focus on the theme of "Ecological Civilization Education." Headed by Professor Chen Jin, Chief Scientist of the Environmental Education Center (EEC) at XTBG, the team comprised of 12 staff members and graduate students from various departments.

Environmental education team study tour completed successfully

During August 18-23, 2022, the environmental education team of XTBG conducted a study tour to Jingdong, Ailao Mountain and Yuan River. The main idea is to integrate a learning and discussion into a business tour. The theme of this tour was determined as “Imagining the Future Education". The chief scientist of Environmental Education Center (EEC) Jin Chen and deputy director of EEC Guangyu Liu leaded this trip.

On May 16, 2022, Dr. Mahandran Valliyappan's post-doctoral report assessment was held in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Tluang Hmung Thang attended the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC), Asia-Pacific Conference, 2019

10th – 13rd September, 2019, Tluang Hmung Thang attended the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC), Asia-Pacific Conference (APC) 2019, held in MAS Athena of Sri Lanka. The ATBC-APC aimed to create a platform to bring together researchers, conservation practitioners and managers, young scientists and business professionals through the scientific discourse and corridor to disentangle and engage the portfolio of diverse tropical biology and conservation issues across the Asia-Pacific region. In this ATBC-APC, over 350 delegates from Asia-Pacific region actively participated.

28th July – 1th August., Xinke YUE attended the 18th International Bat Research Conference, held by Prince of Songkla University, Thailand and Harrison Institute, UK in Phuket island, Thailand. Every three years, some of the best and the brightest scientists and students in bat research and conservation come together for the International Bat Research Conference (IBRC).

Wanlu Liu attended the 10th International Conference on Education

9th – 16th, Sep., Wanlu Liu attended the 10th International Conference on Education in Botanical Gardens, held by the University of Warsaw Botanic Garden, Warsaw, Poland. This conference is dedicated to offer an opportunity for practitioners and theorists from around the world to discuss how we can effectively provide modern nature education, especially in a big city environment.

Professor Doyle Benton McKEY visit EEPAI

During July 12th to August 3rd, Prof. Doyle McKEY who comes from Centre for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology, University of Montpellier, France and does research in Ecology, Evolutionary biology and Ethnobiology visited EEPAI.

Two students defense their thesis

Ms LIU Wanlu and Ms LI Yuanjie successfully finish their thesis defense. MS LIU Wanlu’s study aims to understand the influence of the green space in schoolyard (GS) and the environmental educational activities conducted within school (EEA) on children’s environmental attitude (EA) and pro-environmental behavior (PEB).

Mr THARANGA, Mr BACH, Mr SOUVICK, Ms XIAO Xue and Ms CAI Shaofen successfully finish their thesis defense. THARANGA’s study aims to understand fundamental questions of animal signaling and mimicry theories by mimic butterflies. Mr BACH devoted himself in understanding the ecology of the southern yellow cheeked crested gibbon. Mr SOUVICK’s buy research papers research targeted to identify if beekeeping can really provide significant contribution to local people’s income generation and if beekeepers hold strong willingness for protecting natural forest.
